The top Social Media Marketing trends for 2020

Now more than ever, it is vital for brands to keep their social media content fresh, entertaining, and engaging. But, when creating a social media plan, what are the most important things for marketers to think about right now? Here’s my predictions for the biggest social media marketing trends for 2020 you need to implement into your social media strategy this year:

Show off your personality.

One of the biggest social media trends we’ve seen so far in 2020 is audiences increasingly viewing brands as living entities, as they connect with people more on social media.

Consumers are engaging more when brands talk about the causes they are passionate about, and when brands become ‘relatable’ by talking about current trends in popular culture.

User generated content is key.

Audiences are much more likely to buy from a recommended brand. When it comes to social content, people won’t just take your word for it, you need to think seriously about using user generated content marketing techniques too. That’s why showing off the reviews and happy interactions from your loyal customers is essential!

Stay part of the trend.

Don’t wait for other brands to post content relating to the latest, viral social media trend – you need to be a pioneer. Early adopters of the latest viral trends will benefit the most.

A top tip is to switch on your brain so that whenever you see a new digital and social media trend, your first thought is, “What can my brand do with this? How can we be a part of this conversation?”

TikTok.

The fastest growing platform right now is going to be a key space for targeting consumers – but it is not for every brand. Evaluate if TikTok fits into your strategy first, do your research and see what kind of TikTok trends to try.

How are other brands using TikTok? The Washington Post uses it to create funny, behind-the-scenes videos with newsroom staff. San Diego Zoo posts cute, informative videos of their animals to engage their top fans.

Fresh features – while they’re still fresh.

We know that Instagram is rewarding accounts that use the latest features when they first pop up. If Instagram has just launched a brand new feature to their stories – they will be pushing the accounts who have started to use it that same launch day to the top of feeds. Seize the opportunity!

Micro-influencers are valuable… as long as they are real.

You could invest in one influencer with massive reach, or invest in 100 micro-influencers with far more engaged audiences. Spend less for potentially better returns. Just be sure not to fall into the trap of ‘false influencers’ that are on the rise – people who buy their followers and have very little engagements. Remember – bloggers not blaggers!

Digital detoxing.

Consumer habits are changing, and it’s clear that audiences are engaging a whole lot more with real world opportunities and ways to escape. Talking about self care and how to manage time on social media with time outside is key to any brand’s strategy.

What is social media marketing?

Simply put, it’s using social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to market your business or product. It’s an essential part to any marketing strategy in 2020.

What are the benefits of social media marketing?

First off, social media marketing is largely free. It doesn’t cost a company or brand anything to set up a business presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or other social media platforms.

Secondly, you’re accessing millions – actually, billions – of people by using social media.

It’s also a great chance to be creative and show off your brand’s personality. Create a two-way conversation with your potential customers and build a relationship with buyers!
